Your association with the Cheshire Garden Club can be a wonderful experience, bringing with it many years of joy in making new friendships, learning about floral designing, horticulture and the environment, participating in civic projects, and attending meetings, workshops and trips.

Each member must attend at least 6 of our 9 general meetings, which are held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, from September to June.

Each member serves on the hospitality committee once a year, joining with a few others to provide sandwiches, vegetables, dessert and drinks for lunch.

Each member is expected to be involved in our annual fund-raiser and at least one Club committee:

Civics

Beauty Spots: selecting and awarding the Beauty Spot of the Month

Holiday Door: judge entries for holiday door decorating contest in December

 

Conservation

Educate members on ecology, recycling and conservation topics

 

Garden Therapy

Work on crafts with residents of convalescent homes

 

Horticulture

Educate members on gardening topics and contribute to newsletter

Recruit and welcome new members

Organize and send monthly newsletter of club news and activities

 

Parks

Phillips House: plant and maintain Lucille Williams Memorial garden at historic house

ArtsPlace: plant and maintain front and side gardens at Cheshire ArtsPlace

Dodd: plant and maintain three front garden beds at Dodd Middle School

 

Program

Arrange for speakers, workshops and trips for monthly meetings

 

Publicity

Post notices, announcements and pictures of club activities in local media

 

Ways & Means

Organize December fund-raiser to create and sell fresh arrangements

 

Yearbook

Assemble and distribute booklet for the following year’s programs and activities

 

Youth

Conduct periodic gardening activities to educate children about gardening
